This morning Stacey Blersch, Audrey’s mom, came to demonstrate how a watershed works. She had a demonstration table she borrowed from the Alabam Water Watch group. She showed us how the elevation of the land affects how quickly pollutants can get into the rivers/lakes/etc. and how some water is absorbed into the ground making its way into the ground water and how the surface that precipitation lands on affects how the water moves and where. She left some maps of the watersheds in the state of Alabama for us. They will help us understand that there are very small watersheds, like our local one called the Chewacla watershed, to the next size the Tallapoosa Watershed to the next size up the Alabama watershed and so on.
