This morning Adnan and Gus’s dad Firas Akasheh visited the classroom to talk to us about his native country, Jordan. He discussed the geography and geology of Jordan. We learned that Jordan Is mostly desert and that most of the country is below sea level due to movement of the Arabian and African tectonic plates. Firas showed us pictures of some of the unique sites in Jordan; the Dead Sea and a city carved from stone, Petra. He told us about camels and some of the foods one might find in the desert. Firas left a gift to the class, a bottle of artistically arranged colored sand collected from the many mineral deposits found there. We enjoyed learning many new things about Jordan. Their family will be visiting relatives in Jordan this summer!
