Today Mr. Sam and his friend Ms. Chiatra told us about India and performed songs for us. Ms. Chiatra is from the Karnataka state in southwestern India. She told us that in each state in India, the people have their own language. In some states, they might speak three languages, as well as have different dialects. English and Hindi are spoken throughout the country.

Ms. Chiatra was wearing a beautiful sari and jewelry. She told us that her sari was 6 meters of cloth. She said that it is traditional for women to wear a lot of jewelry every day and she showed us she wears a wedding necklace, instead of a wedding ring.

Mr. Sam traveled through and lived in India for 5 months. He showed us where he had traveled. He was dressed in traditional clothes from the Bengal region of northeastern India. He had two special drums and Ms. Chiatra had some tiny bells. We sang the scales with them accompanied by a drone tone. Then, they played and sang for us. It was very beautiful.  Enjoyed learning about India!
