About this event:
This morning we made paper. First we made paper pulp from the newspaper and construction paper that was soaked overnight. Using a blender, we created a soft, fluffy, gray pulp with little flecks of color in it. Each student stirred the pulp that was suspended in water before immersing the mold and deckle into the bin. In turn, they pulled the mold out of the water allowing the water to drain back into the bin all the while holding the mold parallel to the water’s surface so that the paper pulp would remain flat. When it had drained, the student carried the mold to a blanket where we put the mold facedown onto it. Using a sponge, the students dabbed any excess water off the paper and then lifted the mold, releasing the paper from it and leaving it on the blanket. Each student will be able to make at least one sheet of paper.
