Dan Warner, Ethan’s dad,  and his friend Mr. Cory visited the class today to tell us about and show us some reptiles from his lab. They showed us snakes, lizards, turtles and a tortoise. We got to pet each of the animals and Mr. Dan and Mr. Cory told us about each one. We learned that snakes have very long bodies and short tails, that some lizards can lose their tails and grow them back and that a box turtle’s shell has hinges.

They brought in a big black snake called an Indigo snake. This species used to be common in Alabama and was thought to be extinct here now. They are working to reintroduce this snake to Alabama. They also brought in an Australian frill-necked lizard. We have talked about these during our study of Australia. It was interesting to see how small they really are.

It was an exciting learning experience. Thank you Mr. Dan and Mr.Cory!
