About this event:
We spent the morning outside today. We tie dyed our t-shirts using ice. We soaked the shirts in a soda ash solutions, wring them out and roughly pleated them on racks before covering the top surface with ice. We then squirted them with 4 different dye colors: turquoise, green, purple and a dark blue. We observed how the melting ice helped the dye penetrate through the cloth.
We used our bodies and our imaginations to illustrate the water cycle. We gathered in a circle and our bodies formed the shore of a lake. We bent forward (in child’s pose) to become the surface of the lake. The sun helped us evaporate and we reached our arms towards the sky as our “water vapor” Rose high into the sky where it got cold and the water molecules hugged one another. As more and more molecules hugged together they grew heavy and fell back down to the surface of the earth on the lake, on the ground, or on the side of a mountain. Then we talked about where the water would go.
We had a great morning!
