This morning, Olivia’s dad (Christian Brodbeck), joined us to talk to us about SCUBA diving. Christian is a SCUBA instructor and has made over 140 dives. After a discussion about all the things we could see underwater and how those animals breathe Christian introduced us to SCUBA Steve. With the assistance of SCUBA Steve and Olivia, Christian taught us about the equipment needed and used by divers.
We learned that a wet suit would help keep us warm, a mask would help us see all the cool stuff underwater, A BCD (floatations device) would help us stay afloat, fins would help us swim farther faster and a tank and regulator would allow us to breather underwater. We learned that the regulator has two gauges on it, a pressure gauge and a depth gauge. We also learned sign language used underwater so that divers can communicate with each other. A diver always has a buddy along. We learned that SCUBA means Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus. Christian told us that you can be open water certified at the age of 10. We have several interested potential divers! We enjoyed learning about SCUBA diving!
